Over the last several months, your Information Technology (IT) organization has been actively working to allow for the continued use of Zotero by S&T faculty, administration, and students. Today, thanks to the efforts of Dan Stutts, the Information Technology Campus Committee (ITCC) Chair, the Chief Information Officer and he were able to speak directly with the President of Digital Scholar which owns Zotero. As a result of those discussions, Zotero desktop application and cloud storage for research collection, editing, citation, organization, and collaboration will remain available to the campus community at least until December 31, 2024, pending the receipt and acceptance of security documentation requested by S&T, as promised by Digital Scholar. S&T IT will provide updated communications with the campus community following receipt of the requested documentation from Digital Scholar.
Who is affected?
All faculty, administration, and students currently using Zotero.
Why is this happening?
Previously Zotero was to be removed August 2nd due to a lack of Zotero security documentation. After discussions with the president of Digital Scholar which owns Zotero, this deadline has been extended until December 31st to provide Zotero time to complete the Educause HECVAT security questionnaire.
What is changing?
No changes are required. However, we strongly advise users of Zotero to exercise caution to ensure only DL1 and DL2 data is used in the Zotero environment. Faculty, staff, and students can continue to find the Zotero desktop application available AppsAnywhere – Information Technology | Missouri S&T (mst.edu).
