No, IT fully supports our Google environment, and intends to keep funding it for the current UM System license cycle (until end of 2025) and plans to renew it again at that time.
IT has been actively encouraging removal of accumulated content on Google Drive/Shared Drives as part of the UM Data Retention policies. IT has also been working on shutting off portions of the Google services that are no longer supported by IT, in particular (Gmail and Calendar – both discontinued for users since 2019) and upcoming Google Photos (restricted from use by any new users, but previous users have been grandfathered).
The UM IT official preferred storage for departmental content is OneDrive/Sharepoint, however Google is still fully available for use when it is determined to be the best tool for the specific use case.
