Making a BPM 12004 Request for Software

Making a BPM 12004 request with S&T IT will ensure that your software meets all security, compatibility, supportability, and sustainability requirements for Missouri S&T and the UM System and that legal responsibility is as removed from an individual person or a department as much as possible. Important Note
It is critical that BPM 12004 request are made BEFORE making any purchases. Any purchases made before approval can potentially bind an individual or a department to terms that have not been reviewed by General Counsel and/or Risk and Insurance Management.

Where To Make the Request

A BPM 12004 Request can be made by opening a ticket with S&T IT by:

What To Include in a Request

Including as much information about a software product or service will help S&T IT to identify the product and process it in a timely fashion. When submitting a request, please include:

  • Describe the software or service:
    • The name of the software, including a URL, if possible.
    • The vendor or developer of the software or service, if different from the name.
    • The anticipated cost of the software, if any.
    • What the software or service does and how it will be used.
    • How many people and/or computers will be using the software or service.
      • Will students be using this software or service?
        • Are they required to sign up for an account with the software or service?
        • Are they required to make a purchase to use the software or service?
  • Describe how the software will be used for research, if at all:
    • Is the research grant funded/commercially funded or academic research?
    • Will the research results be published?
  • Describe the kind of data and information that will be used with this software or service:
    • What type of information will the software or service use for input?
    • What type of information will the software or service generate?
  • Describe how this software will need to integrate with UM System data systems, if at all:
    • Will you require any technical implementation assistance from IT?
      • This can be in the form of login credential connection (SSO), data files, web domain integration, etc)
    • Will you require any technical support from IT to maintain or optimize the platform after implementation?
      • This can be in the form of updates to data feeds, vendor management, feature utilization, updates, future implementation, etc)
