LAPS Requests

The expectation is that Information Technology (IT) will manage University-owned systems to include the installation of software. Requests for support should be directed to the IT Help Desk. The granting of administrator privileges represents a risk to the security of the system in particular and, by extension, the security of the University network. Risks include not only viruses and ransomware but also impairment of IT’s management of a system and liability. For example, the installation of unapproved software represents a liability risk for the user and the University.

Effective January 1st, 2024, full-time faculty or staff who have a short-term need for administrator privileges for a system registered to them in support of University operations where IT support is not required can obtain the administrator password for a system registered to them by filing a form in docflow. On approval a 7-day grant is added in LAPS and the user is notified by docflow via email.

In cases where the system is not registered to the requester the request must be sponsored by the registered owner of the system and uses a different form.

Using Administrator Access

Administrator privileges are granted by access to the ccadmin password. This access is managed via LAPS. With the password it is possible to login to the computer as the ccadmin user, but often it is better to utilize the Windows “Run As” feature. For full instructions on how to use LAPS click here.
